Rising Sea Level On The North Coast Of The West Java, Indonesia

A general view shows coastal erosion affecting the shoreline of Cemarajaya Village in the Cibuaya district of Karawang, West Java, Indonesia, on April 13, 2026. Approximately 8 kilometers of coastline are now considered at risk, with damage worsening over the past several decades. Over the last 25 years, at least 85 hectares of land and more than 300 houses in the village have been lost due to sea level rise and tidal flooding. Various mitigation efforts have been undertaken, including the planting of mangroves along the coastal stretch.
