Kampong Pluk, Tonle Sap, Cambodia. Traditional remedies and beliefs are still very much prevelent in isolated communities living on the lake. A ex buddhist monk reveals a photograph of his former self and the scars that were left from when he was a young child and cigarettes were placed on various points of his stomach and chest, resulting in infection and permanent scaring. Dependent on the ailment it is believed by many that live on the lake that placing either burning incense or cigarettes on to bare skin will cure virtually all stomach and head related illnesses. The Tonle Sap Lake is situated in the heart of Cambodia and is South East Asia’s largest fresh water lake. The 1.5 million people that live their lives on the lake are an ethnically diverse population of Khmers, Cham, and Vietnamese who experience a life isolated from both the modern world and the progress that is happening in much of Cambodia. -- Go to http://www.nurphoto.com to see more
