Singaporeans Last-minute Grocery Shopping Before New COVID-19 Measures Take Effect

Singaporeans flock to NTUC FairPrice Xtra at NEX Mall in Serangoon to stock up on groceries minutes before new, tighter temporary measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 take effect, on March 26, 2020. As of 11.59pm on 26 March 2020, all entertainment venues such as cinemas, theatres, and nightclubs have been ordered to close, while religious services and congregations, and centre-based tuition and enrichment classes have been suspended. All large-scale events have also been suspended, while private gatherings have been limited to 10 people or less. Attractions, malls, and shops, however, will remain open, reducing the need for panic buying, though residents continue to buy large amounts of groceries, leaving many shelves empty.
