Land Of Fires

This photograph, taken on 15 August 2019, shows the "Taverna del Ré" repository for Ecobale located between the border of Giugliano in Campania (Naples) and Villa Literno (Caserta) in the middle of the Lands of Fires "Terra dei Fuochi". It is one of the largest storage sites in Campania for its 130 hectares with about 6 million Ecobale inside. The 'Lands of Fires' is an area of the Campania region located between Naples and Caserta, reported as such by toxic waste fires and the ignition of waste fires that have had a strong impact on the health of the local population. The Public Prosecutor's Office of Naples North (judicial headquarters in Aversa) with the Istituto Superiore di Sanità has confirmed the conclusive report on the relationship between the presence of uncontrolled landfills on the territory of municipalities in the provinces of Naples and Caserta included in the so-called 'Terra dei Fuochi' and the onset of certain diseases, such as breast cancer, asthma, various forms of leukaemia and congenital malformations.
