Mucilage Cleaning Has Started In The Sea Of Marmara
A woman staring at the surface of the Marmara Sea covered with sea snot (or mucilage) seen in Istanbul, Turkey on June 8, 2021. Sea snot is a jelly-like substance formed by the excessive proliferation of microscopic plants called phytoplankton. The thick layer caused by the viscous fluid cannot be cleaned despite all efforts and is a serious threat to the biodiversity of the Marmara Sea. (Photo by Erhan Demirtas/NurPhoto)
