Mucilage Cleaning Has Started In The Sea Of Marmara
The surface of the Marmara Sea covered with sea snot (or mucilage) seen in Istanbul, Turkey on June 8, 2021. Sea snot is a jelly-like substance formed by the excessive proliferation of microscopic plants called phytoplankton. The thick layer caused by the viscous fluid cannot be cleaned despite all efforts and is a serious threat to the biodiversity of the Marmara Sea. (Photo by Erhan Demirtas/NurPhoto)
