Selkirk Common Riding _ Safe Out - Morning Ceremonials

Selkirk, UK. 17.Jun.2022. Selkirk Common Riding 2022. Friday. Adam Nichol, Selkirk Royal Burgh Standard Bearer, 2022, flanked by his Attendants, Thomas Bell, Conall Fairbairn, Fraser Easson, Thomas Stanners, ford the River Ettrick on the first crossing, heading “Safe Out”, followed by a horse cavalcade of over 260 riders. Selkirk commemorates and celebrates its history at the annual Common Riding, held on the second Friday after the first Monday in June, when the town’s boundaries or ‘marches’ are ridden. Usually in the region of 300-400, Selkirk boasts one of the largest cavalcade of horses and riders in Europe. (Photo by Rob Gray/NurPhoto)
