Making Of Calaveritas De Azúcar On The Eve Of The Day Of The Dead In Mexico
Members of the Mejía family arrange clay moulds for making sugar skulls inside a home in Xochimilco, Mexico City, on the eve of Mexico's Day of the Dead. The sugar skulls are made from alfeñique, a confection originating in Spain, whose technique for handling it was most likely adopted from the Arab tradition. Alfeñique is created from a mixture of cane sugar with egg whites, water and lemon juice. (Photo by Gerardo Vieyra/NurPhoto)
