The Asian snake-eyed skink (Ablepharus pannonicus) is a species belonging to the family Scincidae. This small reptile has a body color that can vary from brown to copper green, with some individuals featuring a white stripe along their side. Unlike snakes, it lacks movable eyelids. Its habitat spans Georgia, southern Turkmenistan, southern Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, western Azerbaijan, eastern Iran, Iraq, Oman, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Jordan, Syria, the United Arab Emirates, northwestern India, the Caucasus Mountains, the greater Middle East, and Cyprus. A wild Asian snake-eyed skink accidentally entered a house in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on March 13, 2024.

He is being guided by President Nikos Christodoulides of Cyprus and Mayor Yiorkadjis through the old city of Nicosia, where the barricades that divide the Greek and Turkish sides of the city, known as the ''Green Line,'' are visible. Nicosia remains the last divided European capital. This visit marks the first by a German President since the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus in 1960 and the commencement of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
