Manaus, 3rd Oct 2023 - A mixed area of fields and Amazon rainforest is burning uncontrollably, while nearby residents attempt to contain the flames. In October alone, INPE (National Institute for Space Research) detected 3,060 fire outbreaks in the state of Amazonas, at the peak of the worst drought ever experienced by the Amazon rainforest. This crisis has positioned the state as the second-largest victim of these intentional fires, a relatively new issue in this region, located in the heart of the Amazon.

Manaus, 3rd Oct 2023 - As the capital of the Amazon, the municipality of Manaus covers an area equivalent to that of the entire state of Qatar. With the water receding, dozens of riverside communities have become isolated, cut off from the rest of the municipality and the state. For many of these communities, the only means of transportation is by river, and with wells drying up, humanitarian aid provided by government agencies and independent organizations becomes essential.
