Devraj Ghimire (C), Speaker of Nepal's House of Representatives, is conducting the parliamentary meeting that is deliberating on the vote of confidence motion tabled by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Kathmandu, Nepal, on July 12, 2024. Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda, is tabling a confidence motion in the parliament, which is being rejected by about two-thirds of the lawmakers, ousting him from the post of Prime Minister. Dahal, who has been in office for over one year and six months, is requiring 138 votes to pass the trust motion but is receiving only 63 votes in his favor. Out of the 275-member House of Representatives, 194 lawmakers are voting against him, while one member is abstaining. A total of 258 lawmakers are present during the meeting.

Oli is staking his claim to be the next Prime Minister of the Himalayan Nation after President Ram Chandra Paudel is calling on political parties representing in parliament to stake claims for the formation of a new government with a deadline set for the evening of July 14, 2024. The President is calling in the parties to form a new government about three hours after now-caretaker Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is failing the trust motion. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is losing his position on Friday, over 18 months after his appointment, as he is failing to secure a vote of confidence during a floor test in the House of Representatives. Dahal isn't securing the 138 votes required to endorse the trust motion as only 63 lawmakers are voting in his favor in the 275-strong House of Representatives. A total of 194 lawmakers are voting against him, while a member is casting a no vote. A total of 258 lawmakers are present in Friday's meeting of the lower House.
