A member of the Observatory of Police Practices (OPP) is being blocked by the Gendarmes Mobiles from entering the ZAD. Michel Forst, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, is visiting the 'Crem'Arbre' ZAD (Zone To Defend) in Saix, France, on February 22, 2024, to see for himself if there are any truths to the allegations of excessive police violence, deprivation of food and water, etc. During his visit, the riot police are not allowing any media to follow him into the ZAD. Even the two Members of Parliament, Karen Erodi and Anne Stambach-Terrenoir, are not permitted to enter. Opponents of the planned A69 highway between Toulouse and Castres have set up a ZAD called 'Crem'Arbre', and individuals nicknamed 'Ecureuils' (squirrels) are living in the trees to prevent them from being cut down. The Gendarmes Mobiles are intervening to clear the ZAD of all opponents and are now standing guard near the trees occupied by the 'Ecureuils' to prevent sympathizers from supplying food and water. The Gendarmes Mobiles have cleared the nearby area of all opponents, and a special unit of policemen, CNAMO, is intervening to dislodge the 'Ecureuils' from their trees. After two days of police efforts, they have only managed to dislodge one 'Ecureuil'. However, new trees are being occupied by 'Ecureuils' in a new area called 'Cal'Arbre'. The main collective 'La Voie est Libre' (The Way is Free) is demanding that the highway construction be halted until all judicial decisions on the matter are made. The expropriations for farmers have not been resolved. Opponents argue that the reprofiling of the N126 would be sufficient for the 6,000 vehicles expected per day and would cost significantly less. The A69 highway is projected to cost EUR512 million (in 2018 euros, excluding inflation) for 54 kilometers, and its construction would destroy more than 100 protected species and 400 hectares of agricultural land.

Memebers of the OPP (Observatoire des Pratiques policieres ie 'Police practices observatory') gather before the departure of the march of 12km. The collectives 'La Voie Est Libre' (ie 'The Way Is Free'), the farmers organization Confederation Paysanne, XR Toulouse (Extinction Rebellion Toulouse) and 'Les soulevements de la Terre' organized a week-end of mobilization in Saix neart Castres (Tarn) against the beginning of the works on the decried future highway Toulouse-Castres, the A69. Thousands of people stayed in the camp with tents. They assisted to speeches, press conferences, information points before going protesting along places to be destroyed by the highway and on the N126 . This highway would cost (at date) EUR512millions for 54 kilometers, half of the money will be public. Opponents at this project say that the reprofiling of the N126 will be suffisant for the 6,000 vehicles planned per day and would cost far less money. More than 100 protected species and 400ha of agricultural field would be destroyed if the A69 highway is built. A member of the OPP (Police Practices Observatory) takes pictures of riot policemen as protesters quit the place. Several thousands of people took to the streets during a nationwide day of strike and protest. Protesters were called to protest by nearly all trade unions (CGT, FO, FSU, Sud, CNT...) for better work conditions, better wages, better retiremement, a better spending power and more braodly for a better society. Health workers on strike also came to the protest for more means and more consideration. Toulouse. France. October 5th 2021.

A member of the Observatoire des Patriques Policieres (Observatory of Police Practices) stands near riot police. The OPP check police practices during demonstrations. More than 7000 people took to the streets of Toulouse for the Act XIV of the Yellow Vest movement . It begun peacefully but skirmishes happened rapidly between protesters and riot police. Riot police launched volleys of tear gas canisters and fired rounds of flashballs . The Yellow Jackets movement begun on November 17th 2018 by a protest against the rise of taxes on oil products. The rise of taxes was the detonator of their wrath against French President Macron and his governement and their demand of his resignation.Toulouse. France. February 16th 2019.

One of their members has been injured by police during the last Yellow Vest protest last saturday. More than 10 000 people took to the streets for a protest after trade unions called for a day of strike against Macron's policies.
