People take part in a protest against the detainment of political prisoners by the Lukashenko regime in front of the embassy of Belarus in Warsaw, Poland on 26 January, 2025. Belarus holds one of the largest populations of political prisoners in the world. Since protests against sham elections started in 2020 some 1500 people have been imprisoned on political charges and five have died in prisons. In 2024 alone nearly 9000 cases of political persecution have been documented in Belarus.

Activists hold photos of migrants found near the border during a press conference near Kuznica, Poland on 12 November, 2021. In a location close to the Kuznica border crossing activists held a press conference for media on the situation regarding migrants crossing the border from Belarus. This week hundreds of migrants, mainly from the Middle East have been amassed near the border with Poland in Belarus. The Lukashenko regime has been accused by Poland and the EU of using migrants as a tool to pressure them into relieving sanctions put in place after the sham presidential elections. With decreasing temperatures the issue has becom more pressing as migrants crossing the border often end up in dire situations in the wilderness, suffering from malnutrition, the climate and even wounds from Belarusian forces.
