The Cell Experiment: Visit of a French Prison Cell

A view of a bureau in a false cell during a festival on jails. This bureau is used for cooking, for watching TV and for writing. However this kind of cell, conceived to held two people, received up to four inmates in French prisons.March, 28th 2016. Toulouse. France. Differents NGOs like The Human Rights League, the Genepi (NGO for imnates), etc. put on display a mocked typical French prison cell of 9 square meters. This kind of cell is conceived to held two inmates but often receive up to four. The NGOs organize a festival called "Taul'Art" or "Jail outside Walls" to raise awareness of the harsh conditions of incarceration in French prisons. Passers-by are invited to spend some time in the cell. Inmates must live, sleep, have wash, go to toilets, watch TV, distract themselves in this tiny place. (Photo by Alain Pitton/NurPhoto)
