Seoul Launches Trial Runs Of Han River Ferry As Eco-Friendly Transit Option
Staff members prepare a Han River Bus for departure at Yeouido Pier in Yeongdeungpo District, Seoul, South Korea, on July 1, 2025, as the city launches a trial operation of its new eco-friendly ferry system. The water bus, powered by electric and hybrid diesel-electric engines, marks the first public river transit introduced along the Han River. It travels a 31.5-kilometer route connecting seven piers--Magok, Mangwon, Yeouido, Oksu, Apgujeong, Ttukseom, and Jamsil--and can accommodate up to 199 passengers. Official service is set to begin in September, with public trial rides offered every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday through August 30. (Photo by Chris Jung/NurPhoto)
