Seoul Launches Trial Runs Of Han River Ferry As Eco-Friendly Transit Option
Han River Bus crew members demonstrate how to wear life jackets as they prepare for departure at Yeouido Pier in Yeongdeungpo District, Seoul, South Korea, on July 1, 2025, during the vessel's public trial run. The eco-friendly ferry, operated by electric and hybrid diesel-electric engines, is the first water-based public transportation introduced by the Seoul Metropolitan Government along the Han River. The 31.5-kilometer route connects seven piers--Magok, Mangwon, Yeouido, Oksu, Apgujeong, Ttukseom, and Jamsil--and accommodates up to 199 passengers. Official service is set to launch in September, with trial rides offered every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday through August 30. (Photo by Chris Jung/NurPhoto)
