Seoul Launches Trial Runs Of Han River Ferry As Eco-Friendly Transit Option
Crew members operate the Han River Bus on deck after departing from Yeouido Pier in Yeongdeungpo District, Seoul, South Korea, on July 1, 2025, during the city's trial operation of its new river transit system. The ferry, powered by electric and hybrid diesel-electric engines, is the first eco-friendly water-based public transportation introduced by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. It runs along a 31.5-kilometer route connecting seven piers--Magok, Mangwon, Yeouido, Oksu, Apgujeong, Ttukseom, and Jamsil--and can accommodate up to 199 passengers. Official service is set to launch in September, with trial rides held every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday through August 30. (Photo by Chris Jung/NurPhoto)
