Kampong Pluk, Tonle Sap, Cambodia. In a 2008 survey taken out by Cambodia’s Ministry of Health found that anaemia in pregnant women was particularly high at 57%, a similar study by the World Food Programme (WFP) in 2010 found that more than half of the children tested living on the lake were anaemic. Figures from the Ministry of Health also show that 37% of children aged under five have stunted growth due to malnutrition. The Tonle Sap Lake is situated in the heart of Cambodia and is South East Asia’s largest fresh water lake. The 1.5 million people that live their lives on the lake are an ethnically diverse population of Khmers, Cham, and Vietnamese who experience a life isolated from both the modern world and the progress that is happening in much of Cambodia. -- Go to http://www.nurphoto.com to see more
