The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is being guided by the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, and Nicosia Mayor, Constantinos Yiorkadjis, to the old city of Nicosia, where the barricades that separate the Greek and Turkish sides of the city are visible, also known as the ''Green Line''. Nicosia remains the last divided European capital. The visit of the German President marks the first since the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus in 1960 and the commencement of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The villagers have relocated to a new village named ''Dasaki Achnas'' within the British sovereign area, situated very close to the original village. This year commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion.

The Turkish army installed a camera and the flags of Turkey and the so-called ''Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus'' on the roof of an abandoned house, known as the ''House of Christalla,'' inside the UN buffer zone two days ago. This area is officially the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, which was voluntarily given to the UN for peacekeeping reasons. As this act constitutes a trespass of the buffer zone status quo, the Republic of Cyprus is demanding that the UN troops act accordingly to revert this action and remove the camera and the flags.
