President Of Germany Is Guided In Old Nicosia
President Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany and President Nikos Christodoulides of Cyprus are walking towards a section of the ''Green Line'' that divides the free and occupied parts of Nicosia, Cyprus, on February 12, 2024. They are accompanied by Nicosia Mayor Constantinos Yiorkadjis as they head to the old city of Nicosia, where the barricades separating the Greek and Turkish sides of the city, also known as the ''Green Line,'' are visible. Nicosia remains the last divided European capital. This visit marks the first by a German President since the Republic of Cyprus was established in 1960 and the commencement of diplomatic relations between Germany and Cyprus.
