President Of Germany Is Guided In Old Nicosia
Graffiti is being seen opposite the Town Hall in Nicosia, Cyprus, on February 12, 2024. The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is being guided by the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, and Nicosia Mayor, Constantinos Yiorkadjis, to the old city of Nicosia, where the barricades that separate the Greek and Turkish sides of the city are visible, also known as the ''Green Line''. Nicosia remains the last divided European capital. The visit of the German President marks the first since the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus in 1960 and the commencement of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
