President Of Germany Is Guided In Old Nicosia
Nikos Christodoulides is looking through the barricade to the occupied part of Nicosia, Cyprus, on February 12, 2024. The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is being guided by President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, and Nicosia Mayor, Constantinos Yiorkadjis, to the old city of Nicosia. They are viewing the barricades that separate the Greek and Turkish sides of the city, also known as the ''Green Line.'' Nicosia remains the last divided European capital. This visit marks the first by a German President since the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus in 1960 and the start of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
