Chile: Ashes Scattered In The Pilmaiquén River
A mural at the Monument to the Disappeared by the Pilmaiquen River is being observed in Osorno, Chile, on March 24, 2024. The mural commemorates those who vanished during the military dictatorship. The ashes of Mrs. Dina Uribe are being scattered in the Pilmaiquen River, where it is believed that the body of her husband, Santiago, was thrown after his arrest and disappearance at the start of Augusto Pinochet's military dictatorship. Santiago Domingo Aguilar Duhau, Dina's husband, served as the Governor of the Department of La Union until September 11, 1973, and was a member of the Communist Party. Dina Uribe is serving as the first president of the Agrupacion de Familiares de Detenidos Desaparecidos de Osorno on this date in Osorno, Chile. (Photo by Fernando Lavoz/NurPhoto)
